Akka Runtime 1.7.1
Released 2026-10-15.
Governance features
The governance features evolves quickly, the behavior and APIs might change between releases without further notice. See Governance and the runtime.
-
Ledger: the runtime records agent interactions, tool calls, guardrail decisions, classifications, evaluations, and the control configuration. Each record includes the SPIFFE id, the trace id, and the span id. The ledger client fetches the records. The runtime writes the ledger in local development and tests. For a deployed service, the ledger is off by default.
-
Guardrails: the runtime evaluates guardrails before each model call, on the final reply of the agent, and before a function tool call. A guardrail receives multimodal content. The runtime also evaluates the guardrails for autonomous agents.
-
Evaluators: the runtime runs an evaluator after each interaction of a bound agent and records the evaluation. A durable evaluator runs in several steps and resumes after a restart.
-
Classifiers: the runtime records the result of each classifier call in the ledger.
-
Sanitizers: each sanitizer is a named entry that can define where it masks and for which agents. The runtime masks the text that it stores in session memory and in the ledger.
-
SPIFFE identities: every component has a SPIFFE identity. An endpoint can read the identity of its caller, and an access control list can match it.
Other changes
-
Agents: the runtime adds agent id and flow id headers to each model request, see Identity headers.
-
Agents: the token usage includes the prompt cache read and write counts.
-
Agents: cancelling an agent stream cancels the model stream that is in progress.
-
Agents: the runtime sends parallel tool results to Vertex AI as one content.
-
Agents: the runtime closes the MCP client that lists the tools when the listing fails.
-
Autonomous agents: terminating an autonomous agent stops its model loop before the next model call.
-
MCP endpoints: a tool can return structured output.
-
Access control: a
servicematcher with a trailing wildcard, such asprefix-*, matches. -
Service startup: the readiness check reports not ready until
onStartuphas completed. IfonStartupthrows, the runtime logs the error and terminates the instance. -
Workflows: a command that is pending when the workflow stops gets a reply.
-
Service to service eventing: several producer event transforms can run in parallel.
-
Object storage: S3 supports EKS web identity credentials.
-
Metrics: the cached token usage metric is available for Gemini.
