Install using your AI harness
This is the recommended way to set up. You give your AI coding assistant one instruction, and it follows the install steps published at akka.ai.
Give your AI harness this instruction
Open your AI coding assistant and enter:
Go to https://akka.ai and follow its instructions to install Akka.
What happens next
The assistant reads akka.ai, then:
-
Tells you which AI harness it is running in and picks the install path for that harness.
-
Shows you the plan and asks for your approval before it runs each command.
-
Installs what Akka needs: the Akka CLI, Java and Maven if they are missing, the Akka Specify Plugin and its MCP server where your harness supports them, and the SDK documentation in an
akka-contextfolder in your project. -
Scaffolds a starter project in an empty folder that you name.
You do not need to get an Akka download token. The installation retrieves it for you.
When the installation finishes, the assistant asks for an API key for the AI model provider you want to use, such as Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google Gemini. It keeps the key in an environment variable and asks before it writes the key to any file.

akka.ai lists the AI harnesses it supports. If yours is not on the list, see Manually set up your AI harness for the CLI and MCP setup path. |
