CLI conventions

The akka commands share the flags and behavior on this page. Every command answers --help with its own flags and examples. For the commands themselves, see CLI command reference.

Flags for every command

The akka page lists these flags as the CLI generates them, along with every command group.

Flag Description

--context

The configuration context to use. See akka config.

--config

The location of the config file. The default is ~/.akka/config.yaml.

--cache-file

The location of the cache file. The default is ~/.akka/cache.yaml.

-o, --output

The output format. See Output formats.

-q, --quiet

Quiet output, for use in scripts.

--verbose

Verbose output.

--timeout

The client command timeout. The default is 10s.

--page-mode

How long output is paged: paged, buffered, or auto. The default is auto.

--disable-prompt

Disable all interactive prompts. A command that needs input uses its defaults, or fails with an error. Setting the environment variable AKKA_DISABLE_PROMPTS to true has the same effect.

--use-grpc-web

Use grpc-web to talk to Akka APIs, for networks behind a firewall that decrypts traffic but does not support HTTP/2. See Behind a corporate proxy.

Output formats

-o text is the default and displays a table or a block of fields. -o json and -o json-compact return a document that a script can read. -o go-template=TEMPLATE formats the result with a Go template. The akka optimize commands accept only text, json, and json-compact.

Model and optimize commands

The akka models and akka optimize commands add the flags and behavior in this section.

Flag Description

--region

The region to act on, if the project has more than one region.

--dry-run

Check the request without making the change. akka models apply runs the region’s admission without persisting anything. akka optimize commands that start work display the submission payload without submitting it.

--force

Skip the confirmation prompt.

--wait

Wait for the operation to finish. akka models get waits until the model is ready, and --wait-timeout sets how long, 10 minutes by default.

The akka optimize commands also have these conventions.

Output

Results are written to standard output and notes to standard error, so -o json > FILE writes only the document. --jq EXPRESSION filters JSON output, and --json FIELDS selects fields. --json= lists the fields that a command offers. --no-color prints without color.

Writes

A write prints one sentence that says what happened and where to look. The full object is available with -o json.

Confirmation

A command that provisions compute or discards work prompts for confirmation. --force skips the prompt. When stdin is not a terminal, the command refuses to continue without confirmation, so pass --force in a script. --disable-prompt, or AKKA_DISABLE_PROMPTS=true, accepts every prompt.

Waiting

A command that starts a run, a pipeline, or an evaluation returns when the trainer accepts the work. --wait follows it to a terminal phase, and --exit-status makes the exit code reflect the outcome. Interrupting a wait stops the status updates, but the work continues. A later wait reconnects to it.

Exit codes

A read exits with 0, whatever its content reports, except training info, which exits with a non-zero status while the trainer has not finished starting. A refusal, a failure under --exit-status, and a declined confirmation exit with 1.

Identifiers

A command that takes an ID accepts an unambiguous prefix unless its help says that the full ID is required. Training projects also accept their assigned names. Datasets and scoring bundles take a registry reference, such as triage/train, triage/train:v3, or triage/train:candidate.
